Nico Attasio — If you do it with your heart, that jumps off to people

Nico Attasio is a creator of interior objects made out of recycled wood and other basic materials. When I entered his space I felt the warmth and the joy of his soul. It was everywhere — in the design of his products and in the atmosphere Nico creates.

CLEAN EARTH 

— Why do you go for natural things?

—Because I like it. I like the idea ‘keep the earth clean’. It’s always been like that. I like the colour, the atmosphere, the feeling. I would never sell a painted chair, I like to keep it natural as much as possible. 

SOUL

—I like when people come into my space and say, ‘this is good here’ and when they feel comfortable. This is a good feeling.

— Why is there a good feeling?

—It’s because there are items that have a soul. If you do something with your heart, that jumps off to the people. 

FEELING

—Your favorite items, what do they feel like?

–It’s just a feeling, a feeling for a form, a feeling for material and more.

HANDS-ON

At the age of 68 Nico is very involved in all parts of his business, “I do the sales, the design and the office work. I do things differently. I go to the place where they make it, I go in the jungle, in the village. Normal people, my colleagues, would never go there. I don’t have agents, etc. I do the exhibition Maison & Objet twice a year and that’s all I do, I have orders for the entire year and my production is full, we don’t even have materials to produce more.”

HEART

— What does it mean to you “creating with your heart”?

—It means not to follow the money you can make, just make nice things, not for the money. I only sell what I like. If I don’t like it, I don’t sell it.
