Luis Parades — Turning glass into a poem

Luis Parades has invented his unique way of working with glass and became known as the glass poet.

SOUL STORIES

Luis says — Each person has his or her own interpretation, their own story with a soul. For example, One day ago someone came here, saw the sculptures and cried. Another person has written a poem.

MAGIC

Luis challenged me to make an experiment. He put me in front of his creation and asked if I am ready. Then he switched on the light above the sculpture, so the entire object turned into something else — I was able to see things I didn’t see before, and it felt like the pure magic. There was the flow of energy, and something touched me so deeply. I had no idea what it was, just the pure experience of it. Luis said, “If you could see how your face has illuminated. I just say nothing. The experience. The face. The emotions.” And then he added, “When people come here and I see their emotions, this is when I know that I have touched their heart.”

ALL SENSES

This is a dialogue with hands and with all senses in each step of the work.

INNER TUNING FORK

“When I finish the work, I am the first person to get moved or get touched.”

CONTINUITY

Not everything is approved in the studio. I have a visual dialogue with pieces. All the senses are communicated. There are pieces that do not fit the collection. It not that the piece is not done well or with less heart ….It’s only that the piece doesn’t fit at the moment. They wait in the studio, where I work with other pieces. The beauty of this material, glass, is that I can continue working after with the pieces. My teacher told me, “you can not through something away just because it's broken or not good, you should keep doing it until it is good.

PASSION

It is simply passion, wondering, and I live for the thing that I love. It is very very important.

PATH

Glass was love from the first side for Luis and then he kept searching for his own way to work with glass, that expresses his soul — and so he invented it.
