17. Impossibles

Meanwhile, in all the factories we visited, we had very similar experience — every element of my creation appeared impossible to be produced the way I wanted:

— Wooden base?

Impossible, because it requires in-depth expertise that none of the fashion factories have. And, factories that specialise in wood don’t have the fashion experience to create a wearable object.

—Perfectly defined form?

Impossible, because wood in its nature is ever-changing and imprecise.

—Finest craftsmanship?

Impossible, because in the history of rigid-core bags there was never a necessity for refined quality, so no one knows how to assemble such bags flawlessly.

—A pure design?

Impossible, because designed this way, it would leave no place to hide production imperfections.

— Elegant leather in colours I love?

Impossible, because all beautiful leathers are made for soft bags. There are only some industrial, flat leather options available for rigid bags, with no possibility of magic colours.

— Sculpted handle?

Impossible because it requires its own development, which implies great attention to details and is too complex.

— Petite accessories?

Impossible, because they are considered being not practical to apply to wood.

Soon, it turned out that every component had to be developed individually for this object. Each one presented its own unique challenge. It all seemed like an enchanted fairy tale. How could everything about my bag be impossible in the world’s best country for bags?
